Today Bob Iger announced a second live-action series will air on Disney’s new upcoming streaming network Disney+. The show was first announced during the Disney Shareholders Call. Starwars.com then followed up the following article.

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced today that Lucasfilm is in development on a second Star Wars live-action series for Disney+, the Company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service. The series, which will go into production next year, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for the latest updates.

This series has so much promise for character cameos due to its timeframe. We have been lost in daydream speculation about potential appearances.

The concept of being a spy thriller really does have a nice feel if Lucasfilm can tap into a supervising director who can channel a James Bond-vibe into the series. With no release date details at this time other than it will go into production next year, we are forced to place this next to the Game of Thrones writers Star Wars project and Rian Johnson’s film trilogy as projects that are TBA.

So this would bring the total to eight projects currently in some form of production:

  • Star Wars: Resistance – animated series
  • LEGO Star Wars: All-Stars – animated series
  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 7 – animated series
  • The Mandalorian – live-action series
  • Cassian Andor’s live-action series
  • Star Wars: Episode IX – film
  • GOT writer’s film series
  • Rian Johnson’s trilogy

Disney+ is set to clean up in the streaming service game with so many highly anticipated programs are coming to the network.

While it is way too early to announce a title for the series, Matthew Ruch may have just hit the nail on the head for the title.

Again the timeline for this film is magical as Hasbro can tap into so many of its previous molds and lines we would assume. X-Wings, U-Wings, Stormtroopers, Rebel leaders, TIE Fighters of all sorts, and the list can go on. It will be interesting to see how Hasbro in 2020 or 2021 chooses to support this line and if it will be the same way the handle The Mandalorian as well.

Until we know more,

May the Figures be with you!
